The lips are prominent facial features.
They can be divided into three different regions. There is skin on their outer surfaces and a thin smooth lining (mucosa) on the inner surfaces. Between these two tissues lies the vermilion zone (or red zone). It is this zone which people commonly call 'the lips'.
The vermilion zone forms the transitional zone between the mucosa of the mouth and facial skin. It shares some features with the facial skin that surrounds it, but also has some noticeable differences.
The skin of the lips, like skin elsewhere, has a dermis and an epidermis. The epidermis of the lips functions in a similar manner to the epidermis on other parts of the body: it provides a self-renewing barrier, protected from the outer world by a continually exfoliating stratum corneum.
The characteristic red color of the lips is unique to humans and comes from the blood vessels in the dermis. The many rete pegs (papillae) are long and narrow, and contain loops full of blood vessels. The closeness of these vessels to the surface, combined with a thin, almost transparent epidermis, gives rise to the red appearance of the lips. In cold weather when the blood vessels close down and the circulation becomes sluggish, the lips look blue.
The ridged appearance of the lips results from a highly folded dermis, which is not found in the skin of other parts of the body.
There are no hair follicles and sweat glands in the dermis of the lips - this is one of the most marked differences from other parts of the skin.
The absence of these features within the lip dermis means that the lubricating effects of sebum are not present in the lips. As a result the lips can easily become dry and chapped. The stratum corneum of the lips is thinner than that of the rest of the skin, worsening this effect.
The lips require constant re-hydration keep them healthy and to prevent drying, with the accompanying deterioration in appearance. As everyone has found, licking dry, chapped lips just makes the dryness worse. Only a product like a lip salve can help, because only this can ensure that water molecules accumulate effectively in the stratum corneum. Modern lipsticks can help to protect the lips

oh man, i'm such a stalker... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahha!!! aiya, whatever makes me happy lah ya? hahahahahahahahahahahah!!
anyway, i was a BK today, and they were playing a christmas song which goes, "i saw mummy kissing santa under the misotle.." ok, now that's bad enough, what added on to its horror was, "what a laugh it would be if daddy saw it too." oh my goodness!!! what kind of song is that? hahahah! and it's suppose to be sang by a little kid.. terrible terrible.. horrible horrible.. hahahaha!
and it's really interesting to study at starbucks at ttsh.. you get to listen in to the doctors' conversations... it's eavesdropping, but it's interesting.. so never mind.. hahahaha!
anyway, my dreams nowadays are really really interesting and funny.. hahahaha! how entertaining... =D

i slipped five times today, and out of those five times, i fell twice.. hahahaah! and once i fell on the road.. thank God there wasn't any oncoming cars.. if not bye bye jiayuan.. hahaha!
and just a thought, how many friends will you be "friends FOREVER" with? as in, your whole life you two are friends, as in still keep in contact that kind.. hahahaha! just a thought...
anyway, my dreams are really super interesting lah! very funny one.. hahahahaha!

i realised i very long never blog already... can i do a random-thoughts thingy again? =D
i have had many funny dreams recently.. i like dreams.. very interesting leh.. i remember one dream that i dreamt right, i was going around from one hair salon to another to ask the hairdressers to cut this strand of hair on my head that was much longer than the rest of the strands.. HAHAHAHA! then the hairdressers were all like, "(in mandarin) this one we don't cut." hahahah! ridiculous lah my dreams.. hahaha! but very entertaining.. heh.. =D when i woke up from that dream i was like, "eh? actually that strand of hair i can just cut it myself ah.. hahahah!"..
will you all still visit me in my clinic even though i'm so looney? weili, pam, yishan, you all must still trust me ok? heh heh =D
i'm really looking forward to december.. 'cos i would be getting my reply from adelaide.. i've been thinking about it recently.. about how i'll say my goodbyes to all my dear dear friends in the airport, about how i would spend my life in adelaide with bee.. so fun! =D bye bye everyone! heh =D
today i had my first exam paper in nus.. it was quite scary.. 'cos when i went there.. SO many people were there!!! hahahaha!
and i miss hamster.. so now i just have to resort to Lifeline.. hahahaha! i think weili knows what i'm talking about.. hahaha! but no use.. 'cos she doesn't read my blog.. hahaha! =D
ok, i think that's enough random thoughts for today.. =D

today i was looking through my handphone lah.. then saw some pre-saved templates.. some of them were, "i am busy now, call you back at.." or "i will be late, will reach in.." stuff like that.. then i saw one which said, "i love you too"... WAHAHAHAHHAHA! can you imagine? how insincere! hahahaha! my boyfriend better don't use "i love you too" templates to reply my messages next time man.. hahahaha!

today i've seen two of my ac juniors, who are having their A Level examinations now, with the exact same nick, "hope for the best, prepare for the worse."
sorry but this phrase really just doesn't make sense.. how can your heart be hoping for the best, filled with so much hope, but then outwardly you're preparing for the worse.. when you're preparing for the worse, isnt part of your heart hoping for the best too? so how can you hope for the best wholeheartedly when you're preparing for the worse? that means you are not hoping for the best wholeheartedly, but actually part of you is anticipating the worse.
just doesn't make any sense does it? why can't we just hope for the best, and leave out the second part of the phrase? won't life be so much happier? =D

hahaha jas, at first i thought very hard about what things about me are weird.. then i really couldn't think of anything leh.. hahaha! 'cos i'm not weird what right?? hahahah!
but then after two days of thinking, i thought of some stuff.. hahahaa! but i only managed to think of three leh.. ok, so here goes..
1. i come up with weird exclamations.. hahahaha! such as, "dot chieng peanut butter sandwich", "lao pok dao pok", "jia lat bo lat", "abish bush", "ping pong piah", "ROAR" etc.. hahahaha! i think only my brother and my sister know what they really mean.. hahahah! and sometimes i'll just say something which even i don't know what it means either.. hahahaha! it just comes out as some weird sound.. hahaha!
2. my nails turn purple when i'm cold.. that's counted weird right? hahahaha!
3. i like to pull my hair.. hahahaha! as in i like to play with my hair, then if i feel a curly strand, then i'll pluck it out.. hahahaha! and this has resulted in alot of hair lying around the house.. it's sick.. but then i got sweep the floor okkkk! hahahaha!
ok, that's all that i can think of, still have to think of two more.. if you all have any to add, just tag ok? hahahah! i would like to know what do other people find weird of me. hahaha!

i wish that when i grow old, i would still be able to laugh as i do now.. =D
anyway, so happy, and pleasantly surprised, that chrystal sms-ed me all the way from melbourne this morning.. heh.. =D got such a shock when i got her message at 8am.. hahaha! my food and health lecture was going to start... =D
had a good chat with her.. heh.. =D they are coming back on the 28th of november!! can't wait!! heh =D but then 28th i have my last paper at 5pm.. so i guess i'll only get to meet up with them on the 29th! heh =D
friends are so important to me.. =D
anyway, i had a really really funny dream.. i dreamt that my sec four chinese teach called me up and told me that cambridge decided to moderate the A Level results, so that means all our grades will up by one grade.. so instead of getting four Bs.. i'll get four As... hahahaha! then in the dream i started calling up all the australian universities and told them that i wanted to apply for medicine course.. hahahaha! super super funny lah! i was so disappointed when i woke up and found out that it was just a dream.. hahaha!
but, still, i'm still looking forward to going to adeliade to study.. =D
today i had a long day.. 8am - 4pm.. actually, it's 5pm.. 'cos i took one extra hour for my organic chemistry pract!!! hahahaha! sad case lor.. thank God i wasn't the last one there.. there was a group of us.. the same group of us.. hahahah! =D never mind lah, take my time to do.. anyway it's the last pract for this sem =D
oh i played tennis yesterday! after a long time.. had fun.. =D then had dinner with karen, kaixiang and lydia.. yummy yummy yummy food.. =D shall go back there next time.. =D
anyway my exams are coming up real fast.. and i still have super alot to study.. tmr and friday i don't have sch at all, 'cos tmr is hari raya, then fri i don't have biodiversity pract, so i'm free.. =D
must make full use of the time.. =D study study jia! =D
